The series of interviews with the Slovenian finalists in Misija Evrovizija finishes with Manuela Brečko. She seems to be one of the favorites to qualify to EMA, as she has not received a single remark by the jury members, and also won RTV Slo’s poll before the start of the first final heat of Misija Evrovizija. Manuela spoke to us a bit about her life, her expectations and views on Misija Evrovizija, EMA, and Eurovision as well. Read what she told us in the interview below:
escXtra: Hello Manuela! Thank you very much for taking the time to speak to us. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Manuela Brečko: Hello! My name is Manuela Brečko and I’m 22 years old. I come from Slovenia. Major part of my life is associated with singing, and especially now when I’m participating in Misija Evrovizija.
X: What made you decide you wanted to enter Misija Evrovizija?
M: Desire for singing at the Eurovision stage made me decide to enter Misija Evrovizija!
X: Did you expect to reach the Top Six in this contest?
M: You can’t be sure, until it happens…
X: So far you have received nothing but praises from the jury members. Does that make you feel more secure in the Contest?
M: With every praise and criticism they give us, more motivation and strength I get to be good and even better.
X: Who do you think is your biggest competition in Misija Evrovizija?
M: Each contestant is special in her own way, so I don’t think we can talk about competition. My opinion is that music must be something fun and joyful, and not something we fight about.
X: What kind of songs would you like to sing in “EMA 2012“ and Eurovision?
M: I’m not looking in just one direction or one music style. It is important to feel what I’m singing. A song must have deep and meaningful lyrics and sensual melody – a song must have a soul! And it doesn’t matter if it’s a ballad or something more lively.
X: Are you a fan of the Eurovision Song Contest, and have you got any all-time favorites?
M: I watched Eurovision Song Contest – every year – all my childhood, and I still do now if only time allows me. About my all-time favorite… I really like Lena – she’s young and with so much charisma and energy. I think I will always remember her as young successful Eurovision contestant.
X: What would representing Slovenia in Eurovision mean to you?
M: Representing Slovenia in Eurovision would be the realization of one of my life goals. It would absolutely mean a lot, because I could show Europe how much I enjoy singing and everything that comes with it.
X: If you could record a duet with any former Eurovision entrant, who would it be with and why?
M: If I would get that chance I would definitely choose Alyosha, who represented Ukraine in 2010!! She has an amazing, special voice and she sings so naturally and convincingly. She reached into the heart with her performance and I still remember it today. So it would be a great honor recording a duet with her!
X: Finally, do you have a message for all the readers of escXtra?
M: If I get a chance to represent Slovenia in Eurovision in Baku, I urge you to accept us with open hearts and support us. SLO… 2012…12pts…
X: Thank you very much for your time and good luck in the contest!
M: Thank YOU!
