Special: Eurostars Review 2012 – Vukašin Brajić

Day five of six

With only one week to go until the escXtra team arrive in Baku to begin coverage of the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest, we decided to get a team of former Eurovision stars together to review the songs competing to be the 60th winner(s) of our beloved contest. On day five we have Vukašin Brajić who represented Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2010 with his song Thunder And Lightning, placing 17th. Vukašin decided not to give scores, but nonetheless, have a look at what he thought below:

Bulgaria: Sofi Marinova – Love Unlimited

I heard this song so many times. Well.. Not this one in particular. But all parts of it in many, many “different” songs of this kind. I already forgot it. I guess it can be a nice disco material if you don’t know anything else to play except ESC songs. There is no any musical value in it. I hope this girl, singer, likes it. If not, she will need a serious help after all the promotions and rehearsals. Or she can just pop some ectasy and party all the time.

Israel: Izabo – Time

This song has many interesting things in it. It is Brit, it is retro, it has some ethnic influence… Not so obvious but still… Very colorful. Still… I don’t like it. The whole package is just not selling. Also, drums are too aggressive for this kind of song. Strange production. Video is bit alternative, but not original. This was “theme” for several years now. I am hoping to see some originality… But they did try to do something different. It is obvious.

Norway: Tooji – Stay

Didn’t this guy represent Sweden last year? Only he did much better job then. No? Hmmm…
Song is pretty much the same like Bulgarian. Ethno intro and go go go go go go go partyyyyyyy! I don’t like it. Production is nice. Scandinavia knows how to make a sound. Chorus is same like last year for Sweden. Are you sure this isn’t that guy? Yes? Well, then he did great job pretending. NOT!

Switzerland: Sinplus – Unbreakable

This song is most “up to date”. Production, style, video… Everything is fine. I can hear it more than once. Song has MUSE written all over it. Nice! The only thing I don’t like is the singer. He did the nice job singing, but somehow he doesn’t fit in this… He needs to get little bit dirty if he wants be a part of rock band. I hate this “metro” shit.

Denmark: Soluna Samay – Should’ve Known Better

I like this girl. She’s got charisma. Song needs little bit more energy, but it is nice. I can also hear it more then once. Denmark also takes this competition seriously. I think she needs to lose the guitar. But that is not a problem. This is a nice song. Go girl!

Croatia: Nina Badrić – Nebo

Nina is “crem della crem” of Croatian music scene. That involves serious song, production, performance, approach. Balkan countries still take this competition seriously. As much as they have afford it. This song is not my cup of tea, but it’s a SONG! Real, actual SONG!

United Kingdom: Engelbert Humperdinck – Love Will Set You Free

I like this time machine. Song is nice, guy knows how to sing, nothing too much, song is called like the latest “Whitesnake” single… Only thing I dislike here is UK approach to ESC. Good luck, old man. You are part of generation that required quality for success. Respect.

We would just like to state that these opinions are that of Vukašin himself, and not of everyone at escXtra. Feel free to give your own opinion in the comments below!
