Baku Live: Sweden win 2012 Eurovision Song Contest

New 12-points record

Sweden have won the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest. From a start position of 17, Loreen sang Euphoria to bring the 2013 contest to her home nation. At the Grand Final, broadcast live from Baku’s new Crystal Hall, victory was assured by Loreen with 372 points, a margin of 113 over second placed Russia.

Loreen reprised her winning song to rapturous scenes in the arena. Euphoria is only the second Eurovision entry to amass a total of over 300 points, with only Alexander Rybak gaining a greater total and larger winning margin. Loreen collected 18 maximum scores of 12 points, exceeding the 16 achieved by Norway’s Rybak. Only Italy failed to reward Loreen with any points. Russia also scored points from all bar one country (Switzerland), but notably only achieved one maximum score, issued by Belarus. Albania, Azerbaijan and Serbia all were awarded four 12 points.

The next contest is provisionally scheduled for  18 May 2013. Congratulations to Sweden for their fifth Eurovision crown, the first in 13 years.
