Sweden: SVT Sets Out 2013 Rules

Having won Eurovision 2012, SVT are already thinking about their hometown entry for next year’s Song Contest by issuing a call for songs for Melodifestivalen 2013.

From 3-17 September songwriters are invited to upload songs to SVT’s website as part of a ‘Public Contest’, of which 1 of these will go through to Melodifestivalen itself. These songs must be written by composers who have never previously had work published. A further 15 songs will come from the ‘Regular Contest’- open to those who have had work published before. The remaining 16 songs will, as previously, be invited by SVT to take part.

This year also sees the ‘Web Joker’ round not taking place. “We’re taking a break with the web joker” said Thomas Hall, Project and Event Manager of Melodifestivalen 2013.

Foreign composers may take part if they collaborate with Swedish composers.

The rules are available in Swedish here, and English here.
