The Spanish commentator in the Eurovision Song Contest for 19 years, José Luis Uribarri has died today, after suffering a stroke.
Uribarri was hospitalized last Wednesday, when he suffered a cerebral stroke. For a few days he was in the Intensive Care Unit in the hospital in Madrid, but today he passed away.
José Luis Uribarri was born in 1936 in Ávila. He was working in the Spanish television TVE since 1958. He was the Spanish commentator in the Eurovision Song Contest for 19 years, and the fans used to call him “The voice of Eurovision”. The first time he commented on the Contest was in 1969, when Spain was one of the four countries which won the contest, and the last time in 2010, when Daniel Diges represented Spain with “Algo pequeñito”.
He was also a jury member a couple of times in the Spanish national selection for Eurovision, and has received many awards, one of which was for a “Life dedication to the Eurovision Song Contest”.
