Malmö 2013: Petra Mede will host the Eurovision Song Contest 2013

It was announced this morning in a press conference held by SVT that Petra Mede will be the sole presenter for this year’s edition of the European music competition.

Petra Mede will be familiar to many as the host of Melodifestivalen 2009 but is best known as a comedian. Since 2007, she has been on Swedish television screens, appearing on satirical panel shows. She was voted Sweden’s best female comedian in 2009 and will now present all three shows of the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö, in May.

If you wish to find out more about Petra Mede, you can read her biography on the SVT website here.

Petra will co-write the script for the contest along with Edward af Sillén, the usual scriptwriter for Melodifestivalen.

During the quick press conference that was held, Petra answered a few questions and demonstrated her capabilities in both French and English for the press.

This is the first time since 1995, when the contest was held in Dublin, Ireland, that there will be just one host presenting the contest.

With just 107 days left until the first Eurovision semifinal in Malmö, there is now a national selection every weekend until the deadline to submit entries passes.
