TRT’s general director Ibrahim Sahin has today announced that the broadcaster have no plans to return to the contest unless changes to the voting system are made.
Speaking at today’s Turkish National Song festival, Sahin told the Turkish media that TRT have not considered taking part again, for the exact same reasons as announced last year – The introduction of the 50/50 jury split vote and direct qualification of ‘The Big 5′.
“Five countries directly entering the grand final in this competition is unfair. If this system countinues, we will not take part”.
Sahin ended his announcement with a directed reach out to the EBU, calling for changes to be made next year.
“We are waiting for changes to the current voting system before a final decision is reached. Time is not over yet however, there is still a chance we can participate next year ”
Turkish Eurovision fans are using social media to protest again the decision and call for a new broadcaster to take over from TRT. Twitter users have been using the hashtag ‘#EUROVISIONyoksasendeyoksunTRT’ in order to gain attention by the media.
