The best on the night – Lucia Moniz singing O meu coração não tem cor (My heart has no colour). Loved her song back in 1996!

In my opinion Teresa Radamanto, Diana Piedade and José Freitas should qualify. Simone de Oliveira might snatch it, due to her popularity in Portugal!

6. Diana Piedade – Maldito tempo
The last artist to go on stage is Diana Piedade. Diana has a very wild look as she is clad in a white suit. She interacts very well with the camera shots. In the beginning she is all alone on stage but soon she is joined by four male dancers. In the end a trombone player enters the stage. A jazzy song which stands out from the rest!

5. Filipe Gonçalves – Dança Joana
Filipe is next on stage and he gives a very colourful performance. He is accompanied by many dancers for his Dança Joana. The song is nothing special but may qualify with this bunch of mediocre songs.

4. Simone de Oliveira – À espera das canções
Simone de Oliviera at the age of 77 is trying to represent Portugal again. In her last appearance in Eurovision i.e. 1969, she received only 4 points and with this dull ballad she will get less. The song is based on string instruments but there is no oomph factor in this act.

3. Teresa Radamanto – Um fado em Viena
Teresa is next on stage and she sings a ballad which though a bit old fashioned it’s melody is strong. Recently we had a fado song from Portugal by Filipa Sousa but this is different. The mandolin plays an important role in the musical arrangement. Teresa gives a flawless performance while clad in a black elegant long dress. In the end she received a warm applause. This is my favourite so far!

2. José Freitas – Mal menor (ninguém me guia à razão)
The second song is much better as José Freitas sings a blues song in Portuguese. His voice is very solid and the long notes were pitched so well. He is clad in a dark suit with a black tie while a dancing couple is performing a really interesting dance routine. I think this one deserves a spot in the final!

1. Rubi Machado – Quando a lua volta a passar
The first song does not really make us look forward for some great songs from Portugal. Rubi’s vocals are flat and the song is a mix of country and folk music. She is clad in an all in red dress. I can’t imagine this song making it to any other national final!

Let’s hope tonight’s songs will be much better than last Tuesday. Portugal need to up their game if they really want to appear in the grand final. Last time we saw Portugal in the final was in 2010
