Good Evening!  We’ve reached the penultimate show of this year’s Melodifestivalen in which tonight, eight of the third and fourth placed songs that failed to progress directly to the final in their heats, will perform once more as they go up against each other in four duels.

  • Duel 2:
Hasse Andersson – Guld Och Gröna Skogar

Dinah Nah – Make Me (La La La)
  • Duel 4:
Behrang Miri ft. Victor Crone & Malena Ernman – Det Rår Vi Inte För

Here we go then, results!

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20159:23 pm

I actually think this is a lovely interval.

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20159:22 pm

Sanna is performing En Gang i Stockholm (Eurovision 1963) with Monica Zetterlund on screen.

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20159:19 pm

We’re expecting another small interval act to get us to the final results too.

March 7, 20159:18 pm

A good performance from the boys tonight although Viktor did almost fall off the video boxes when he launched himself at it for the second chorus! The selfie stick is back again tonight and the boys get their customary photos with the crowd who seem to be loving it tonight. This is a close call. These two Swedish language entries offer an awful lot and differ somewhat. Consider a potential anti-vote against Samir & Viktor that the famous Carola and Andreas Johnson duet once recieved and this is far from a foregone conclusion.

Danny Ni
March 7, 20159:17 pm

The final performance of the night is Samir & Viktor with “Groupie”. This gets pretty lively quickly with the five backing dancers taking centre within the first 20 or so seconds. Samir & Viktor have good chemistry and great camera charisma. This certainly gets the crowd going and I expect those watching on TV too. As much as I like Behrang’s song, I think this one will win over the Swedes a lot more and get them to the final.

Groupie

The app voting goes crazy, this must be winning then. Easily. They can’t sing for life, their vocals are so incredibly horrid, it’s unbelievable. The song is catchy though. Taking a selfie on stage… Nah, let’s not.

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20159:14 pm

Onto the young people’s choice, Samir & Viktor who have definitely improved upon their vocals by the sounds of the rehearsals. They were nervous previously and have used the backing vocals more this week.

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20159:14 pm

Samir&Viktor now.

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20159:12 pm

Det Rår Vi Inte För

Malena. This is all about Malena. Which is pretty sad cause she only has like 20 seconds there. The song isn’t up to much, but Malena makes it special. Can’t see this winning though.

Danny Ni
March 7, 20159:12 pm

Behrang Miri kicking off this duel, With a surprise appearance from Malena Ernman – Her vocals surprisingly blending well with Behrang & Victor’s rapping.

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20159:12 pm

Immediately we are treated to Malena’s operatic vocals to open the song into Behrang’s first verse. Victor was nice and competent during the choruses, of course as was Malena when her vocal was called upon in the second rap verse. Behrang’s great at working with the camera too and his passion shines through. This will be dangerous tonight, I think.

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20159:09 pm

Remember, like Linus Svenning, Behrang has been here before, however he did not qualify a couple years ago. His song “Det rår vi inte för” featuring Viktor Crone is first.

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20159:08 pm

Luckily it’s over and we are into the final duel now which is HUGE. Samir & Viktor, hugely popular with the app voting youth versus Behrang Miri whose friend Malena Ernman is providing live backing vocals on the operatic notes. Behrang is up first.

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20159:07 pm

SHE’S DRAGGED CHRISTER UP ON STAGE, HANDING HIM A POM POM. I don’t think this was rehearsed either… hahaha!

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20159:05 pm

“Don’t Compete In Musik” is deliberately a parody of Melodifestivalen but it’s actually abysmal, I hope on purpose.

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20159:04 pm

Someone at SVT has stupidly decided to give Filippa Bark an interval act solo. That person needs sacking. Immediately.

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20159:04 pm

She sounds like Arisa. Awful.

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20159:02 pm

Oh dear guys, Filippa Bark is back. Help us all.

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20159:02 pm

Make Me (La La La)

Yeah.. no. This song just doesn’t do it for me. The dubstep stuff is utterly horrific, it’s my worst nightmare. I’m being incredibly distracted by that abysmal hair colour Dinah chose. Vocally she’s below par and on the uptempo front, she’ll so lose out to Isa in the final. Thankfully. She’ll win this though. Sadly.

Danny Ni
March 7, 20159:01 pm

Dinah Nah on stage next. The sound mix has definitely improved for this song, We can hear Dinah a lot more clearly. The dub-step section gets applause from the audience and the lighting really does some wonders. Dinah has great interaction with both the crowd and camera and pretty much nails every note. If it were up to me, this would already be in the final and hopefully should win this duel.

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20159:01 pm

NAILED. IT. I am Molly, I am Holly, I am Polly, Sorry Goodbye. Sailing through there for sure is Dinah Nah.

Danny Ni

And now… here comes Dinah Nah with “Make Me (La La La)” which probably would have qualified last week ahead of JTR if it wasn’t for the app vote.

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20158:56 pm

Hello Hi

This is so incredibly shit, it’s hilarious. It’s fun. It’s catchy. I’m annoyed with myself for liking this. I enjoyed that performance, even though they’re utter shit vocally.

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20158:55 pm

So I think it’s utter crap but it’s really quite catchy. The two ladies that aren’t Molly are really quite terrible at singing though. This may be the last time we see this as the performance is a bit of a mess.

Danny Ni
March 7, 20158:55 pm

Dolly Style up first in this duel with “Hello Hi”. I’ve never been able to take this one seriously, as a song and performance and I have to say, that hasn’t changed. The vocals are shaky and the whole thing comes across as messy on stage. This is the song I’m hoping we won’t see again after tonight.

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20158:52 pm

Onto the duel that escXtra.com editors cannot predict. With pretty much a 50/50 split in opinion here, it’s Dolly Style and Dinah Nah. First up, the wigged ladies of Dolly Style with “Hello Hi”.

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20158:51 pm

Time for Dolly Style!

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20158:51 pm

She’s in tears as she tells the crowd “we’re born to be higher”.

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20158:50 pm

That choreography when the track drops towards the end is brilliant.

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20158:50 pm

Paperlight feat. Kazaky is quite a spectacle. The camera work and the mixing between cameras is quite something. This absolutely my type of music and I’m digging it hard.

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20158:49 pm

I’m…. not a fan…

Danny Ni
March 7, 20158:48 pm

Loreen giving us a visually impressive performance of her new single “Paperlight”

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20158:47 pm

And here’s Loreen!

Danny Ni
March 7, 20158:43 pm

The winner of the second duel is… Hasse Andersson!

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20158:43 pm

If he improves his performance next week, good choice.

Danny Ni
March 7, 20158:42 pm

And the winner of the first duel is… Linus Svenning !

Danny Ni
March 7, 20158:38 pm

And here we go then, the results of the first duel are in!

Danny Ni
March 7, 20158:37 pm

Kristin up next with ‘I See You’ and its worth pointing out that this is the only ballad of the night.

Kristin is connecting with the camera a lot more this time around and she’s carrying the song rather well. Visually, this looks great – with an almost sepia tone added to the camera. As this is the only ballad, I wouldn’t rule this out either.

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20158:37 pm

I See You

Kristin sounds absolutely horrible tonight, it’zzzzzzzz.
Sorry just woke up.
She couldn’t hit a note if her life depended on it. The song is dreadful, terribly boring. The only redeeming factor is the lyrics. Those are good. Make it a poem and I like it. Make it a song, and nope. Hasse HAS to win this.

Danny Ni

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20158:37 pm

If I thought Kristin Amparo failed to hit most the notes in her semifinal, she’s performed spectacularly worse tonight, mainly in the verses. Hasse has that wrapped up, unless we have a repeat of MF2009 where Sarah Dawn Finer qualified through two rounds of duels to the final with a terribly sore throat.

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20158:33 pm

So effectively my stream cut out several times but from what I did hear, he sounded as competent as last week. This is a very Swedish song and will score well on the vote tonight. I can see this qualifying ahead of what’s next.

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20158:32 pm

Guld Och Gröna Skogar

YEEEEEEES. Fun, classic dansband here from our crooner, Hasse Andersson. This so jolly, so likeable, so awesome. Please, let this qualify, this beats both of the songs of duel 1. It’s awesome! I’ve also been tapping along.

Danny Ni
March 7, 20158:31 pm

03. Hasse has that likableness that comes across in his performance. It’s also one of those songs that you know you shouldn’t be tapping your feet along to but as I type this, have found that I’ve been doing it for the past minute. I really wouldn’t be surprised if his charm and the general ‘jolly’ feel to this gets Sweden picking up the phone for him.

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20158:27 pm

Onto our second duel now though! Hasse vs Kristin.

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20158:27 pm

Instead of a result, we now move on to Hasse and Kristin!

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20158:26 pm

And honouring the classics means you’ll definitely need… Israel 1987? Shir Habatlanim it is…

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20158:26 pm

Can I just say that Sanna’s version of “Ne partez pas sans moi” was very valiantly sang in French and it’s my favourite performance of hers ever as she sang a good song whilst proving her excellent vocal capability.

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20158:25 pm

And now we’re up for a little Eurovision medley, Nel Blu Di Pinto Di Blue up first, then it’s A-Ba-Ni-Bi.
Third song was Save Your Kisses For Me (credited as ‘England 1976’…). Then it’s Dschinghis Khan, Hallelujah and Sanna doing Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi.
Up next is a shock horror version of Hold Me Now… It’s… dance…

A little comedy interval now before voting closes, about… now.

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20158:17 pm

Forever Starts Today

He sounds so nervous, it’s really below par. Also, I can’t really connect to this song. It does very little for me. His stage performance is miles better than Andreas’s, but he does so little with it… As Dan said, this is probably a better song, but Andreas nailed it. Linus didn’t. This will be exciting.

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20158:17 pm

Haven’t got a clue how he sounded as my internet is being terribly intermittent. All I can say though is that song has actually grown on me, although I do think it sounds more suited to the Irish selection than the Swedish musically. I think Linus has edged this one on past record in the competition.

Danny Ni
March 7, 20158:16 pm

02. Linus sounds a little nervous during the first verse, but the audience are behind him tonight with a host of clapping as the chorus begins which definitely is helping him through. If I’m being perfectly honest, while I think Linus has the better song in this duel, Andreas gave us a lot more in his performance.

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20158:14 pm

Andreas’ vocal is a bit more relaxed this week as he varies up the notes from the song on track. It’s a little arrogant though, as Nick alluded to. Not my favourite song or performance but it got us off to a powerful start.

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20158:13 pm

Time for Linus Svenning now. Can he beat Andreas?

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20158:12 pm

Bring Out The Fire

So yes, this does remind me of John Newman’s music. Except it’s… not as appealing. The chorus is pretty good, the stage performance with Andreas on a little platform and girls around him is far from exciting. It’s just… he’s looking so smug…

Danny Ni
March 7, 20158:11 pm

01. Andreas performs confidently tonight, emphasizing the lyrics and belting out the chorus. Whilst there’s no change in the actual performance, it definitely has a lot more energy than his semi final performance did.

Nathan Waddell
March 7, 20158:08 pm

Hello everyone, let’s see what Weise has for us!

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20158:08 pm

So here we go then, with John Newman. Erm, Andreas Weise!

Danny Ni
March 7, 20158:06 pm

After a brief panic, I’ve finally got the SVT stream to load. After a brief introduction of tonight’s acts, we’re away!

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20158:05 pm

So the artists are now coming on stage, starting with Andreas and Linus.

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20158:01 pm

And duh, I’m not alone tonight! Nathan and Dan will be joining us tonight! We’ll be having a lot of fun with Sweden tonight 😀

Nick van Lith
March 7, 20157:57 pm

Välkommen till Sverige, välkommen till Helsingborg! The show will be live in three minutes. We hope.
