After weeks of pre-recorded shows, Austria will now have a liveshow to select which of the remaining entries will represent the host country. Six acts remain, but which act will fly from Vienna… to Vienna?

The show will take place in two parts. First, we’ll have the first six acts perform their songs. After that, ten international juries will vote. The ten voting countries are Australia, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Slovenia, Israel, the Netherlands and Latvia). Then our host, Mirjam Weichselbraun, will announce the televoting points. The acts with the highest scores from this combined vote will then progress to a superfinal.

The six remaining entries:

  • DAWA – Feel Alive
  • Johann Sebastian Bass – Absolutio
  • Celina Ann – Utopia
  • Zoe – Quel Filou
  • The Makemakes – I Am Yours
  • Folkshilfe – Who You Are

So that’s it from us tonight! Thanks for following us tonight and we’ll see you back tomorrow for the last national final evening of the season…

The Makemakes represent Austria on home soil

Nick van Lith

The Makemakes have won WSFÖ 2015 and will represent Austria!

Nick van Lith
March 13, 201510:34 pm

Mirjam just asked Conchita about her next plans saying ‘Tomorrow you’re off to Stockholm’ – Preparing for her Melodifestivalen appearance!

Also: VOTING CLOSED!

Nick van Lith
March 13, 201510:32 pm

Just a little on what Mirjam just said: Alexey is someone in the audience. He’s a Russian gay man who decided to move to Austria after seeing Conchita perform last year.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 201510:30 pm

Did you really think Austria would have a national final without her? Here’s Conchita Wurst!

Nick van Lith
March 13, 201510:28 pm

Just six more minutes to vote.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 201510:27 pm

Surely The Makemakes have this in the bag?

Nick van Lith
March 13, 201510:27 pm

The reason they’re doing this superfinal is simple: They want to send an act where more than 50% of the voters have spoken in favour of.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 201510:23 pm

Televoting takes priority, so DAWA gets the ticket for the superfinal. Televoting counters go back to zero, voting starts all over again.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 201510:23 pm

DAWA gets the superfinal ticket.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 201510:22 pm

The Makemakes have made the superfinal for sure, 24 points. DAWA and Zoe both on 18.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 201510:22 pm

Televote:

10: DAWA
8: Zoe
7: Folkshilfe
6: Johann Sebastian Bass
5: Celina Ann

Nick van Lith

So they just re-counted it to 12 for The Makemakes, 10 for Zoe, 8 for DAWA, 6 to Johann Sebastian Bass, 7 to Folkshilfe and 5 for Celina Ann from the juries.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 201510:20 pm

Nick van Lith
March 13, 201510:18 pm

The Makemakes and Zoe on 107 and 103, should be the ones for the superfinal. DAWA in third with ‘just’ 79.

Nick van Lith

A timeless classic which very few singers can actually handle. I know just two. Udo Jürgens himself and Helene Fischer, the last person to ever sing this for Udo on a big stage. Rest in peace, Udo.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 201510:00 pm

An interval now. Our contestants are singing Merci Chérie, the first Austrian winner.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20159:57 pm

Another recap now!

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20159:57 pm

We’re back now, so results of round one soon…?

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20159:54 pm

Zoe’s record label is smart, ORF didn’t see it. We just had a commercial for Zoe’s new album, with a song in the background… Quel Filou. Surely that’s not OK…?

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20159:46 pm

ORF is going for a short break now, we’ll be back in about five minutes. I’m going to enjoy Austrian commercials.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20159:45 pm

Mirjam is now speaking the lines no national final host should ever say ‘Well, we should be able to take those songs. Our songs are rather good tonight.’

Don’t go trashing the competition, ORF, not too elegant when you do that.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20159:39 pm

Time to have a look at other competitors in Eurovision 2015.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20159:32 pm

The Makemakes – I Am Yours

The trouble of choosing late. Had Austria chosen early January, we’d all be rooting for this to win. But hey, guess what, it’s another ballad. A male ballad by a group though, so maybe that’s a redeeming factor?
This is by far the best song, I think. Not the most enjoyable (that’s still Johann Sebastian Bass and Zoe for me), but possibly the best. The ones to beat.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20159:27 pm

Here’s the last act, it’s The Makemakes!

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20159:23 pm

Johann Sebastian Bass – Absolutio

EPIC. HOT. MESS. ALERT!!!! My goodness grief this song goes literally everywhere. It starts off with three opera women blasting out the word ‘Absolutio’ before it bursts into an electro/pop/baroque song. It’s so incredibly epic. The 18th century wigs, the outfits, the mess, the chaos. Yes, Austria, yes.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20159:14 pm

And here’s Johann Sebastian Bass. As they say… all the way from 1750s!

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20159:12 pm

Celina Ann – Utopia

Celina is a good singer, a good comedian and a fun girl to hang out with. It’s just sad they gave her this song. She lifts it to another level, but the song isn’t up to much. It’d fit right in with the girls fighting for themselves this year (Nina, Amber, Mélanie), but she wouldn’t really stand out. Sadly. She deserves better.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20159:06 pm

Next up is Celina Ann. The least politically correct girl of tonight. ORF have just shown how politically correct and decent they are: no swearing, cursing or open mindedness on ORF please! In past weeks, Celina has said shit, fuck, balls, I need to pee – stuff like that. And ORF just did a count of how many ‘wrong’ thing she’s said. Poor girl.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20159:00 pm

DAWA – Feel Alive

Might be me, but I just don’t get this. The lead singer sounds off key, the staging is ok, but boring and then there’s the song. It’s no wonder I first discussed the other factors before the song itself… The song is nothingy… They said they don’t want to go commercial and they’ve drawn it the complete other way. It’s not commercial, but it also has zero identity. For me.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20158:51 pm

It may have increased her change to win, it hasn’t improved the song. Anyway, moving on: DAWA!

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20158:49 pm

Zoe – Quel Filou

The most ridiculous choice of the season. I’m actually angry at whoever told Zoe to sing in English. French fits this song like a glove, English sounds forced. No, no, Zoe, this was not the best choice. She should’ve done what she wanted: Perform this in French.
The staging is not really interesting, Zoe’s voice is, it’s really good. In French.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20158:46 pm

I’m not impressed. She seemed to be under pressure because of her choice for French and has now changed Quel Filou to English…

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20158:41 pm

Next up is Zoe. She seems to be one of the favourites tonight, but can she win with her French song?

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20158:37 pm

Folkshilfe – Who You Are

I’m not sure what this song is about or what they’re doing to be honest. They’re a folk trio, but they have let that go for Eurovision. Apart from an accordion start and verses in an Austrian dialect of German, it’s just a boring old repetitive pop song. It’s not bad, really, but it has zero identity.
Also, as Dan pointed out to me this week, it sounds like they sing ‘Your shit still stinks’.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20158:33 pm

Our first act tonight is Folkshilfe. They’ve been criticsed for their style in the past weeks, but will just keep doing what they like! Except… they’re singing in English.

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20158:26 pm

So, after tonight’s voting by international juries and televoting, the top two go into a 100% televoting superfinal!

Nick van Lith
March 13, 20158:20 pm

Herzlich Willkommen! All participants have just performed Rise Like A Phoenix!

Media Liaison: One of the founding members at escXtra. I'm the Dutchman who loves every little idiotic Eurovision fact there is.
