Several Dutch media outlets are reporting that Dotan has been selected to represent The Netherlands in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. The 29 year old is the hot favourite to fly the Dutch flag in Stockholm.

It’s become quite the tradition in The Netherlands that press get a good idea of who’s flying their flag before the broadcaster actually intend to reveal the name. It was the case in 2014 as well as in 2015. Last week, it was reported that Avrotros were planning to reveal their artist next month. It may however be moved forward if the Dotan rumours keep coming.

When we asked Avrotros earlier this week about their plans for 2016, they told us there was no news yet and that there was no set date for an artist reveal just yet. They did however confirm that an internal selection would once again be in place.

Dotan Harpenau is a 29 year old singer who rose to fame in 2014 with his single Home. His follow up singles, Fall and Hungry managed to conquer the charts as well. His sudden fame in neighbouring countries meant that Dotan was a contender to represent The Netherlands in Vienna, but due to a lack of experience and the fact that Trijntje Oosterhuis had her song ready meant that the 42 year old eventually was preferred by Avrotros. With all the consequences we now know. Sources close to the singer already revealed late in 2014 that Dotan was very interested in going to Eurovision.

Will Avrotros reveal their entrant soon or will they keep us waiting? Only time will tell.
