RTVE seems quite eager and excited to start the journey towards Stockholm – and today they have published this year’s artists and composers.
After posting a Dia de los inocentes news announcing the crooner Bertín Osborne as one of the six artists (using the appropriate hashtag #los6fantasticos), this morning the real six artists have been announced. After conducting a poll on twitter on who would have the audience wanted to see in Sweden, with the hashtag #euroapuesta, a few of the big names have been confirmed.
Nothing has been said about the format: no official date, nor a statement about voting procedure. We only know that each singer will have one song – of which we don’t know the titles yet.
Here are the six young talents (and for once they really are young!) for the 2016 Spanish entry to the Eurovision Song Contest.

Xuso Jones

(Song composed by Andreas Öhrn and Peter Boström, lyrics in Spanish)
26 years old singer from Murcia. Xuso Jones is the alias of Jesus Segovia Perez, a YouTuber that has had a massive success after recording a video of him singing his order at a McDonald’s. The company actually contacted him to be part of their adverts. After recording an album in LA (called Part 1) and publishing the second album “Vuela” last May, he partecipated in “Tu cara me suena” (Your face sounds familiar, the Spanish edition on Antena3).
The song will be written by the Swedish team of Andreas Öhrn (half of the Swedish group Gravitonas) and Peter Boström (co-author of Euphoria). The song has been described as danceable, original, something new and international.

Salvador Beltrán

(A Spanish song by Salvador Beltrán, Miguel Ángel Arenas “Capi”)
Self composed song with the help of “El Capi”, known author of big stars as Mecano and Alejandro Sanz. Salvador is a 23 year old singer from El Prat de Llobregat (where the Barcelona airport is, basically). He has been discovered too through Internet and has already published two albums produced with El Capi. The first one in 2012, called “Cambio de planes”, and the second one this year called “Reflejos en mi camino”.
The song has been described as “positively charged in order to show to whole Europe the cheerful character of the Spanish people”. Here is his last single “No intentes Amarrarme” where it’s not so difficult to hear his folk preparation.

Maverick

(Authors: Juan Magán, Darlyn Cuevas “DCS”, Luiggi Giussepe Olivares, song in Spanish)
Maverick has come 3rd in the last edition of the Spanish “The Voice”. During the programme, he was mentored by Laura Pausini. The authors of the songs are Juan Magán (a representative of the “Electro Latino” genre), the Dominican Darlyn Cuevas and Luiggi Giussepe Olivares of whom it’s rather difficult to find informations about.
Maverick comes from Castellón de la Plana and he’s only 18 years old. The song will be a Latino anthem, to make the audience dance. His last single is entitled “Princesa Descalza” and sounds like a Latino ballad.

María Isabel

People will clearly remember María Isabel. She is one of the Spanish winners (as in: she won the Junior Eurovision in 2004 with the song “Antes muerta que sencilla”) when she was 9. She is now a 20 year old artist from Huelva. Her song will be composed by David Santisteban who has already worked with big Spanish names (like Pastora Soler, David Bisbal, Bustamante and David DeMaria). The song has been described as “fresh air” and “danceable”, but also like something that will bring out the best of Maria Isabel’s artistry.
Between the age of 9 and 12 she published 4 albums and last month she published the new album “Yo decido”. The first single out of it is called “La vida solo es una”, a sort of summery dance song with clear Spanish influences.

Electric Nana

(A self composed song in English)
Monica was born 27 years ago in Madrid. She is the indie addiction to the line up, as her self composed song has been described as something that will make the audience be enthusiast of it. She has worked for different projects (between Cinema, Internet, composing for other artists) and she has decided to enter the Spanish National Final as it has always been her dream to be on the Eurovision stage.
She will be singing in English – and her latest indie feel-good single is called “The one I want”.

Barei

(With a song in English by Bárbara Reyzábal (Barei), Rubén Villanueva, Víctor Púa Vivó)
Barei has composed her own song with Ruben Villanueva and Victor Pua Vivo. She declares herself “influenced by the British and American sound, with a touch of soul and funky”, she has listed as one of her major projects having co-authored in the latest Edurne album.
The song will be electro pop with a very modern sound, as she feels it represents her style. She also says her songs are really international, with a clear message. Her last song “Throw a dice” was out last week. Barei composes her songs in English in order to connect to a wider audience.
