Albanian broadcaster RTSH (Radio Televizioni Shqiptar) has confirmed that Albania will take part in the forthcoming 2017 Eurovision Song Contest, due to be held in the Ukrainian capital city of Kyiv next May. The broadcaster has also confirmed that Festivali i Këngës will be used to select the Albanian entry once again, as it has been ever since the country’s debut in 2004.

As you can see in the official RTSH advertisement above, composers and artists will be able to submit entries for the festival on October 10th and 11th, with the festival itself taking place in late December. This selection method has provided mixed results for Albania over the years, appearing in the final 7 times in their 13 Eurovision appearances. The country’s best result occurred in 2012 when Rona Nishliu finished in 5th place with Suus, also giving Albania their second top 10 finish after Anjeza Shahini secured a 7th place on the country’s debut in 2004.

Last year, Eneda Tarifa won Festivali i Këngës with Përrallë which was translated into the English-language Fairytale for the contest in Stockholm. Unfortunately Eneda didn’t make the final, finishing in 16th place in the second semi-final.

Which artists do you want to see in Festivali i Këngës this year, and do you think Albania can make a return to the Eurovision final in 2017? Let us know in the comments below!

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
