Earlier today SVT presented the 28 artists taking part in Melodifestivalen 2019. Among the artists are many familiar faces, including three Melodifestivalen winners, as well as many newcomers.
Deltävling 1: Gothenburg
Anna Bergendahl – “Ashes to Ashes”
Anna Bergendahl competed in Swedish Idol in 2008 and finished fifth. After that she took part in Melodifestivalen in 2010 with the song “This Is My Life”. She won the contest and went on to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2010. Unfortunately for the first time since the introduction of the semifinals, Sweden failed to qualify to the final. Anna’s most recent album was released in 2012.
The song is written by Thomas G:son, Bobby Ljunggren, Erik Bernholm and Anna Bergendahl. Thomas G:son won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2012 with Loreen’s “Euphoria”. Ljunggren has had over 40 songs in Melodifestivalen, with five winning entries, including Anna’s “This Is My Life”.
Nano – “Chasing Rivers”
Nano finished second behind Robin Bengtsson in Melodifestivalen 2017 after being the favourite of the public. His latest single “Love Is The Reason” was released earlier this month.
The song is written by Lise Cabble, Linnea Deb, Joy Deb and Thomas G:son. Lise Cabble co-wrote Eurovision 2013 winning entry “Only Teardrops”. Linnea and Joy Deb won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015 with Måns Zelmerlöw’s “Heroes”.
Mohombi – “Hello”
Mohombi’s 2010 hit “Bumpy Ride” charted everywhere from Canada to Czech Republic. Since then he has worked with Pitbull, Nicole Scherzinger and Alexandra Stan. Before his worldwide success, Mohombi took part in Melodifestivalen in 2005 in a duo Avalon. They failed to qualify from the semifinal, after placing only 6th with “Big Up”.
The song is written by Alexandru Florin Cotoi, Thomas G:son, Mohombi Moupondo och Linnea Deb. Linnea Deb has four songs in Melodifestivalen 2019, all competing in the first semifinal.
Zeana feat. Anis Don Demina – “Mina bränder”
Zeana competed in Swedish Idol in 2016 and her first single “Ingen lek med mig” was released in 2017. DJ and singer Anis Don Demina was seen in Melodifestivalen in 2018 with Samir & Viktor. He also featured in duo’s 2018 single “Put Your Hands Up för Sverige“.
The song is written by Thomas G:son, Jimmy Jansson, Anis Don Demina and Pa Moudou Badjie. Pa Moudou Badjie is a member of the group Panetoz that took part in Melodifestivalen twice. Jimmy Jansson has taken part in Melodifestivalen several times as a songwriter, in a group The Poets and as a solo singer.
Arja Saijonmaa – “Mina fyra årstider”
Finnish singer Arja Saijonmaa has competed in national selections in Finland and Sweden. In 1987 she finished second in Melodifestivalen with “Högt över havet”. Later the song won the inaugural OGAE Second Chance Contest. Most recently she took part in Melodifestivalen in 2005 with “Vad du än trodde så trodde du fel“.
The song is written by Göran Sparrdal and Arja Saijonmaa herself.
High15 – “No Drama”
The girl group High15 rose to fame on Sweden’s Got Talent in 2017. Their audition has been watched over three million times on YouTube. They were signed for Sony Music Sweden and in 2018 they released two singles “Adios!” and “When We Were Kids”.
The song is written by Joy Deb, Linnea Deb and Kate Tizzard. Linnea & Joy Deb wrote Måns Zelmerlöw’s Eurovision winning entry “Heroes”. They also co-wrote Finland’s Eurovision entry “Monsters” in 2018 together with the singer Saara Aalto. Kate “Katy Tiz” Tizzard is a British pop singer-songwriter, who also has written songs for Girls’ Generation and Cheryl Cole among others.
Wiktoria – “Not With Me”
Wiktoria has taken part in Melodifestivalen two times before. In 2016 she finished fourth with “Save Me”. She returned the next year with “As I Lay Me Down” and finished sixth in the final. She was also the Swedish spokesperson in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017.
The song is written by Joy Deb, Linnea Deb and Wiktoria Johansson herself. This is the first time Wiktoria works with the Debs in Melodifestivalen.
