NorthKid release music video for their Melodi Grand Prix entry “Someone”

Norwegian group NorthKid has been one of the lucky acts to be selected for a position in the final of Melodi Grand Prix right away. The song was performed for the first time in the third Semi-Final of the Norwegian national final, albeit with some technical difficulties. This hasn’t stopped them from releasing the music video, though, which you can watch on their YouTube channel now!

Celebrating LGBT+ rights in Norway

The video shows a pair of elderly people, a man and a woman named Juhan and Frøya, who seemingly find each other again after a long time apart. They hug and catch up, and Frøya finds old pictures of them together. After spending some time together and having fun, Frøya kisses Juhan, but he rejects her. She is upset, until one day she sees Juhan again, meeting another man and holding his hand. She blows him a kiss at the end of the video. The characters are played by famous Norwegian actors Terje Strømdahl and Thea Stabell.

The main point of the music video is to celebrate love and spark emotion, especially with regards to LGBT+ rights in Norway. The video was shot in Alta, the band’s place of origin. NorthKid member Håkon Guttormsen described the band’s thoughts and feelings on the music video:

Our songs are often about love, and all the girls – or boys – be didn’t get. Relationships that didn’t turn out the way we wanted and hoped for. That’s why we are so happy we can use our voice and platform to show that love is love, and happens in every age group. Also, this year marks the celebration of it being 50 years since being gay was decriminalized in Norway.
