LIVE DAY 6 REVIEW: Norway give that roof some fireworks

Subwoolfer give a polished and explosive performance

ESCXTRA.com are live for day 5 of rehearsals ahead of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 taking place at the Pala Olimpico in Turin, Italy!

We continue with the second rehearsals for the majority of the artists in the first semi-final! The countries rehearsing today, in chronological order, are Iceland, Norway, Armenia, Finland, Israel, Serbia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Malta. Also taking to the stage today for the first time are the big 5 – France, Italy, United Kingdom, Spain and Germany will have their first rehearsal later this afternoon.

The latest artist to rehearse is Subwoolfer from Norway who are performing their song “Give That Wolf a Banana”

Rehearsal review

Stage presentation

Iceland set the bar very high by starting the day with three perfect runs. By comparison, Subwoolfer needed some tweaks to take it into ‘ready’ territory.

The lack of smoke or a more bold LED floor removes the sense of expensiveness somewhat, because at points you can see the marks and sheen of the stage floor.

Costumes and styling

The styling is pretty much unchanged from the Melodi Grand Prix final, thankfully. I want to give a special mention to the dancers, who are wearing canary yellow heeled ankle boots which match with the ‘skin’ of their bodysuits.

Vocal quality

From a technical perspective, the choreography and the blending of the vocals were excellent in all three runs. However, some of the camerawork could be adjusted in order to frame them better for TV viewers.

The vocal is much improved from the first performance we saw of this, even though the last run was a little bit shaky at the start (to be expected after three runs).

Overall impression

The performance, although still imperfect, is very gripping, even though I’ve seen it a few times now. The addition of fireworks for the last chorus in their third run was the cherry on top of what could be a top 10 worthy performance next week.
