Georgia were one of the first countries to announce their artist for Eurovision 2022, confirming that Circus Mircus would represent them in November. Today, they have released their song “Lock Me In”, which the band of “circus academy dropouts” will perform in Turin.
About Circus Mircus
Initially, there was some confusion as to who Circus Mircus were. They appeared to be a small, previously unknown band. The band was formed in Tbilisi and all three members are local circus academy dropouts who consider themselves ‘the worst in the circus crew’.
In their music, they try to neglect as many common frameworks as potentially possible. They started the band in late 2020. Previously released songs have had unusual titles, such as “The Ode to Bishkek Stone”, “23:24”, and “Weather Support”.

The song was previously reported to be premiering on the 10th, but has been uploaded a day early. Perhaps this is so Eurovision fans can enjoy the eclectic sounds of the circus even sooner.
The music video will be released at a later date. The current video consists purely of a blank background and the statement “This artist condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine”.
Circus Mircus added the following in their description of this video:
Due to the war in Ukraine, we feel that it is not the right time to release our happy and colorful music video. As per ESC guidelines, the submission deadline is near, so we decided to release only audio, while using the black background instead of the official music video footage, to express our share of solidarity towards our Ukrainian sisters and brothers.
We hope to post our music video in the near future, when these terrible events are over and our societies start getting back to normal. And of course, Слава Україні! Героям слава!
Circus Mircus
Emilia Sandquist, who is part of the Sacha Jean Baptiste group, will be directing the performance in Turin. Previously Sacha Jean Baptiste has been the staging director for Georgia’s Nika Kocharov & Young Georgian Lolitaz, Nina Sublatti and Tamara Gachechiladze. Last year Emilia directed Tornike Kipiani’s performance in Rotterdam.
At the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, Georgia will compete on the second semi-final on May 12th. Circus Mircus will be performing in the first half of the show.
Georgia in the Eurovision Song Contest
Georgia have had mixed fortunes in the Eurovision Song Contest lately. Their most recent entry that qualified and reached the Grand Final was Nika Kocharov and Young Georgian Lolitaz’ “Midnight Gold”. “Midnight Gold” came 20th in Eurovision 2016.
Since then, Georgian entries have failed to reach the Grand Final, most recently Tornike Kipiani’s “You” in Eurovision 2021. Tornike released “You” on March 15th last year. It finished 16th in semi 2 with 16 points.
