Blanka wins right to represent Poland in Eurovision 2023

Tu bije serce Europy! Wybieramy hit na Eurowizję, also known in English as “Here beats the heart of Europe! We choose the hit for Eurovision” has chosen another act for the Eurovision Song Contest. Blanka has won the Polish national final and will head to Liverpool in May.

Tu bije serce Europy! back for a second year

After a successful national final last year, Poland decided on using it once more. The contest took place at Studio Transcolor in Szeligi, Warsaw in Poland. Hosting the show was Aleksander Sikora, Ida Nowakowska, and Małgorzata Tomaszewska. If there happened to be a tie, the jury winner would prevail.

As with last year, ten acts were selected to compete, with several returning for a second chance. Alicja Szemplińska won in 2020 though was not able to attend due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Maja Hyży tried to represent poland in 2018 finishing 7th in the national final. Kuba Szmajkowski competed last year placing fourth and just missing out on the second round of voting. Not a returning singer, but Dominik Dudek won the Voice Poland in 2022 following in the Voice footsteps of Alicja.

The winner was chosen by 50% professional jury and 50% televote by the Polish public. The jury consisted of Edyta Górniak, who was runner-up in Eurovision 1994, Agustin Egurrola a choreographer, Marek Sierocki, the Polish Eurovision commentator and Marcin Kusy, the president of Polish Radio Program I.

Opening and interval acts were placed all throughout the show. Stefania with “Last Dance” opened with Kalush Orchestra performing their 2022 winning song “Stefania” after. Sara James, who represented Poland in Junior Eurovision 2021 sang her song “Somebody” which placed second, with Efendi performing her fan favorite “Mata Hari” from Azerbaijan. Poland’s first Junior Eurovision winner Roksana Węgiel sang her winning song “Anyone I Want to Be” while last years representative Ochman performed “River”. Jury member and Polish 1994 representative Edyta Górniak sang her newest song “Andromeda”.

Last year, Poland placed 12th with “River” by Ochman, which was a fan favorite in the weeks before the contest. Blanka will perform “Solo” in the second half of the second semifinal on 11 May. Do you think they will qualify to the final this year?
