The reigning champions also took the stage

Italy’s Festival di Sanremo 2022 kicked off tonight with the first twelve acts taking the stage. Next to the performances, we also saw the first results of the press jury.

We also saw the reigning champions Måneskin return to the Sanremo stage. The group performed their Eurovision winning entry “Zitti e buoni” and “Coraline”. Ornella Muti was tonight’s co-host and among the guests were every Sanremo fan’s favourite comedian Fiorello, tennis star Matteo Berrettini and Italian electronic music group Meduza, who performed a medley of their songs “Piece of Your Heart”, “Lose Control”, “Paradise” and “Tell It To My Heart” with the Irish singer Hozier.

You can read more about tonight’s twelve acts here. Tomorrow we will see the remaining thirteen artists performing their songs. We will hear all of the 26 songs again on the third evening, while the fourth evening will be just for cover songs.

The winner of Festival di Sanremo 2022 will have the chance to represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 on the home soil in Turin. Italy will choose the winner on February 5th. The winner will be decided with a combination of the votes by the Italian public, the press jury and the demoscopic jury.
