“We Are In It to Win It” – Alcazar [Interview]

As the final Melodifestivalen semifinal approaches, escXtra had that chance to ask Alcazar a few questions about their much-anticipated return!
escXtra: Hello Alcazar and welcome back again to Melodifestivalen! “Blame It on the Disco” sounds like a proper Alcazar song! What can we expect from the song and your performance?
A: You’re right. Blame it on the Disco is as Alcazar as one could get! It has our sound and our feel, but we take the song to another level. When you hear the song, you can expect your body to start moving to the beat. It’s a disco song!
X: So, let’s talk 2005 – you were in semifinal 1 and had to go through Andra chansen to qualify to Finalen alongside one other artist… who you share semifinal 4 with this year! Linda Bengtzing – are you worried about coming up against her again, given she has always qualified to the final?
A: To be honest, we are focusing on our song and performance, giving our supporters what they want and expect from Alcazar! We are so grateful for our fans that have stayed with us from the beginning! And we are also confident that Blame it on the Disco will “Alcazarize” those new to our music:)
Would you be happy to qualify into Andra chansen given the new format that began last year in which all eight songs perform before the top four go into duels?
A: Oops! I guess we have to learn the new rules and the new format! #hopefullywewontneedtoknowthem
X: Since you were last a finalist, the format has changed. How do you guys feel about there being International juries used in the Final instead of Swedish regional juries?
A: Great question! Well, the change makes sense. Eurovision is an international competition. So, it makes sense to us to have a panel of international juries. Right?
X: Can we expect a brand new Alcazar album to be released alongside your participation in Melodifestivalen 2014?
A: Another great question. We have been busy in the studio and we have definitely been thinking about more music to go along with our new song. Trust us, you will be the first to know!
X: What are your expectations for your participation? Are you aiming to win the Swedish ticket to Copenhagen and perform at the Eurovision Song Contest?
A: That’s the goal. We are ‘in it to win it!’
X: How much did you guys enjoy performing last year as an interval act for Melodifestivalen with Danny Saucedo as your fourth member? Would you ask him back again in the future!?
A: We had a blast working with Danny and we would love to collab with him sometime in the future.
X: Finally, Alcazar, do you have a message for your fans and our readers?
A: It feels great to be back. Our fans mean everything to us. And remember, you can always blame the disco!!
escXtra would like to thank Emma Sundlöf for her help in assisting with this interview and wish Alcazar good luck for the semifinal on Saturday.
The fourth and final semifinal for Melodifestivalen 2014 takes place on Saturday at 20:00 CET.
