He tried his luck back in 2010 and finished second, just behind Chanée & N’Evergreen. This year, Eurovision is coming to his home country and he wants to be part of it. Will Denmark choose him? It’s Bryan Rice! Read what he had to say below!
escXtra.com: Hey Bryan! First of all, big thanks to you for taking the time to speak to us! How do you feel being in DMGP 2014?
Bryan: Hi! I’m the one to thank you for the interest 😉 I feel great! It’s all coming together really good, expectations are high and I’m really prepared this time 🙂 Can’t wait to show it all to you!
X: Could you tell us something about you and your music?
B: Of course! I’m a Danish popsinger/songwriter with more than 17 radiosingles and 4 albums behind me. It all started in 2005 as I released ‘No Promises’ with Danish super producer Remee for the film ‘Nynne’. It became the 4th most playes song in Denmark in that decade, and the following singles Homeless Heart, Can’t say I’m sorry etc are also well known in Denmark and a lot of other countries. In 2010 I finished #2 in the Danish preselection for ESC with the song Breathing. I have done a lot of different things in my almost 10 years of music career, ie. Radio host, theatre concert, TV shows, travelling around the world touring etc etc. I do a lot of charity work for WWF, Danish Red Cross and other causes that I find important and then I write songs for myself and other artists. Latest, I made a feature on a French DJ called Guéna LG, the track is called STAY AWAKE and is primarily released on Blanco y Negro, Spanish Dance label. There’s a great video for it on youtube as well. You can see and read more at www.bryanrice.com
X: The last time you were involved with DMGP, you came 2nd with Breathing. How do you remember that day back in 2010?
B: What I remember best was my entry in Gigantium. Everyone stood up and cheered. I had goosebumps all over, it was such a great start, and I can’t wait to open DMGP14 as well as song #1. I learned many things, but not least that I have the ability to work as a machine. Very focused. I trained myself a lot until the show, as I am doing now, and I love being able to control myself and my body and voice in this way. Just as a sportsman. Then I learned that I have a big, wonderful audience that wants me the best and always stand behind me.
X: Since 2010, a lot must have happened. I read you got to release your music abroad as well: South Africa, Belgium, The Netherlands? How was that for you?
B: My music has always been released WW, but being in the ESC family gave me a whole new channel and audience, which I’m really happy for. It means that I can reach out to even more people and try to make a difference, and that is what it is all about for me.
X: Now, time to talk about 2014. I Choose U will be your song. What will be your way to get Denmark to choose you?
B: I have tried to make the show very happy and positive. Inspired by the series ‘Friends’ I have chosen 5 really good singers that are also my good friends and together we’ll try to show the love and happiness that fills the song. It’s a song about finding the one and only, but could also be about finding real friends. I hope Denmark will choose me for the good song and the special show. Hopefully for the good live performance and because they want something new, international and something that Europe will choose as well 😉
X: Why did you want to go back to the DMGP stage?
B: Because I have the right song, I think. And because Emmelie brought it to Copenhagen and because of all the support I get from you and all other ESC fans all over Europe. The support has been crazy, and the pressure to reenter very big. And then I have always known that someday I should try to make the silver into gold…
X: If you’d win DMGP this year, you’d get to represent the host country of Eurovision 2014. Does that make it extra special for you?
B: Indeed! I love being a host, and I would love begin the host for all the ESC participants this year J With the big support I mentioned from all op Europe, I also believe that I could have a chance in the ESC! I know a lot of the people that make the ESC and I would really love being part of that show and make Denmark proud! Not least, it would mean that I could reach out to even more people, and as I said, that is my only goal.
X: On Facebook you wrote that you were suffering from some voice issues. I hope you’re all fine and ready to go for DMGP now?
B: Haha, yeah, I just had 3 days with a sore throat. Woke up and thought, Oh noooo! But I did all I could to take care of it and now it’s gone again. Luckily!
X: Are you a Eurovision fan?
B: I wouldn’t say that I’m a fan of Eurovision itself, but I’m a big fan of good pop music, and to me that is what ESC is all about!
X: Do you have a favourite all-time Eurovision entry?
B: Yes, no doubt. That would be Euphoria!
X: Finally, do you have a message for the readers of escXtra.com?
B: Yes, thank you very much for your support from everywhere. It means so much to me and is the reason why I sing. Please meet me at www.facebook.com/bryanricemusic and bryanrice.com
