As live music slowly returns to parts of Australia, Eurovision star Montaigne is returning to the stage next month. On November 28 she will headline Sydney’s first ‘Express Yourself – Queer Discovery’ event in collaboration with APRA AMCOS and Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.

Next month Sydney begins the Great Southern Nights initiative to bring back live music, as New South Wales recovers from the Covid-19 pandemic. Throughout November the plan is for 1000 Covid-safe gigs to take place across Sydney and Regional NSW. Within this plan sees a new event in partnership with APRA AMCOS and Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras.
‘Express Yourself – Queer Discovery’ is a new event which sees emerging LBTQIA+ talent take to the stage with established acts. Whereby a panel of industry experts will judge each act. There is a total of three showcases and six acts across them. Which will see two lucky acts get the opportunity to perform at Mardi Gras 2021.
During the first showcase Australia’s rising LGBTQIA+ star Montaigne will headline the show. Her first live public concert since the country went into lockdown. The event kicks off on Saturday November 28 at Sydney’s The Beresford Upstairs. Although tickets have already sold out, plans are in place to make a live stream available too. Montaigne in the Eurovision Song Contest
Earlier this year Montaigne was set to represent Australia at the 2020 contest after winning Eurovision: Australia Decides in February. She would have performed the song, ‘Don’t Break Me’, in the first semi-final in Rotterdam on May 12. However, she will have to send a new song due to the EBU announcing that the 2020 entries would not be eligible for next year’s contest.
I’m very keen to make new music, to produce a new song and figure out a new performance for next year. I’m sad I couldn’t do this year’s because I thought it was going to be really cool but really happy to get another chance at it… Stay tuned and watch this space because there’ll be stuff to come.

Recently she revealed that new music has been in the making. Which Montaigne has teased during her lockdown life as a twitch streamer and gamer. Where we could see Australia’s 2021 entry taking us to alien invasion… Given how 2020 is going, it’s not the biggest leap of imagination! Whether that remains the plan throughout Eurovision season towards Rotterdam, we’ll have to wait and see.
