TaP Music update on the UK entry selection

Just as other Eurovision participants, the UK is in process to pick their entry for the 2022 contest, which is to take place in Turin. Earlier in October, the BBC announced their collaboration with TaP Music, the global publishing and management company. Now we have some updates on how the entry selection is going on.

As Music Week reports, the shortlist to choose the entry and the representative is almost ready. The deadline to announce the final decision is March 10th. According to TaP Music, a lot of artists, both new and well known, expressed their wish to collaborate for Eurovision 2022. Such a variety made the selection process more complicated than expected.

We’re getting really close to making our final decision, we have lots of options and have been pleasantly surprised by how many wonderful artists, both new and more established want to be part of this process with us. Like us, they recognise that Eurovision is the biggest music TV opportunity in the world. It’s a tough decision with so many strong contenders, many with existing European fanbases, which is exciting. When we decide on the act, we will put an incredible team around the chosen act and look forward to sharing news shortly.

Ben Mawson – TaP Music

One of the main goals of this selection for TaP Music seems to change the attitude towards the UK entries for Eurovision and make the country proud, especially after some of recent years results.

The challenge has been finding a talent that has both an incredible voice – because live vocals to 200 million people is no easy feat – as well as having incredible stage presence and an unforgettable song – it is the Song Contest after all. The reason we want to do this, whether our act tops the leader board or not, is to do something special on stage that the UK can be proud of.

Ed Millett – TaP Music

Moreover, many famous artists, who collaborate with TaP Music, also expressed their support that the team is behind the Eurovision entry selection this year. Dua Lipa, Sir Elton John, Lana Del Rey, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Nile Rodgers and Leigh-Anne Pinnock (Little Mix) think it’s a good idea that TaP Music stepped in and hope such effort would help the UK to get better results in Turin.

United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest

The United Kingdom made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1957. To date, the UK has won the Eurovision Song Contest 5 times. The UK has hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 8 times with the last edition of 1998 in Birmingham.

In 2021 James Newman was selected internally to represent the United Kingdom after the Eurovision 2021 was cancelled due to the pandemic. He performed his song “Embers” in Rotterdam. Unfortunately, the entry scored 0 points and finished last.
