🇵🇱 Poland to internally select Eurovision 2022 entry

The result of the selection is due to be announced in January

Last month, the Director of Polish broadcaster TVP confirmed their Eurovision 2022 participation. With the opening of submissions for their entry, the broadcaster has confirmed their second internal selection in a row. This news follows the Polish Musicians Union calling for TVP to focus on Polish songwriters for Eurovision back in July.

Back in August, TVP Director Jacek Kurski confirmed that Poland will participate in Eurovision 2022, due to be hosted in Italy. This week, the broadcaster has confirmed that their 2022 entry will be selected internally, with submissions now being open. The deadline for submissions is November 20.

The chosen act will be selected in a two-stage internal selection process. A jury comprising of five members will each select the top three acts to proceed to the second stage. However, the jury also reserves the right to add entries that were not submission via the open call. 3-15 acts will proceed to the second stage, with the remaining entries being judged on a 1-10 scale. The winner will be the song that receives the most points. In the event of a tie, the chairman of the committee will decide the winner.

The verdict of the jury is due to be announced by January 2. By contrast, RAFAL was one of the last artists to be confirmed for the 2021 season.

The confirmation of the selection method follows calls from the Polish Musicians Union to prioritise Polish songwriters, rather than international teams. In the rules, acts don’t need to be Polish citizens to submit, but do have to be residents.

Poland at Eurovision 2021

Last year, TVP ran a two-stage national final Szansa na sukces in order to select their Eurovision 2020 entry. The Voice of Poland 10 winner Alicja Szemplińska went on to win the selection with “Empires”. She was due to perform in the first half of the second semi-final, prior to the cancellation of the contest.

In 2021, TVP opted to not re-select Alicja for Eurovision 2021. Instead, Rafał Brzozowski was internally-selected to represent Poland in Rotterdam with “The Ride”. He failed to qualify from the second semi-final, placing 14th with 35 points, marking Poland’s third consecutive non-qualification.
