This morning Slovenian broadcaster RTVSlovenija confirmed to the Eurovision world what Junior Eurovision executive producer Vladislav Yakovlev hinted at (and eventually confirmed) in tweets last night; Slovenia would be making their Junior Eurovision début in Malta.
In a press release today, it was announced that Slovenia would be internally selecting their entrant for the contest with both the song and singer being presented on RTVSLO before the end of September.
The announcement has come rather as a shock since RTVSLO had stated on a number of previous occasions that they were not interested in participating in previous years, however rumours of their being in talks with the EBU had recently begun to spread.
Slovenia becomes the 14th country to confirm their participation in the Maltese hosted show, with a 15th country – Portugal believed to be soon to confirm. Today news re-emerged from Portugal stating that they are “officially” competing, but a spokesperson from the EBU has confirmed that RTP have yet to officially submit their application.
