The semi-finalists for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest will be revealed once again during TVM’s popular Friday show, Xarabank. WE Media (producers of Xarabank) announced that on 3rd October at 20:40 CET will run a special show in which it will reveal the twenty semi-finalists for the national selection to take place a week after Malta hosts the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
Malta is expected to be one of the first countries to select for Vienna as the national final which usually takes place in February was moved to 22nd November 2014. A few weeks ago PBS announced drastic changes in the selection. One of the main changes is that the song that will be selected can be changed before the broadcaster submits it’s entry to the Eurovision Song Contest in March.
The number of submissions is yet unknown however a considerable amount of singers and writers decided not to take part. Maltese star Ira Losco is highly tipped to be one of the participants in the selection. Ira is one of the Maltese artists that brought Malta’s best result in the contest. In 2002 she came second with the song 7th Wonder. Since then she embarked on a musical career that resulted in great success both locally and abroad.
The Malta Eurovision Song Contest will for the very first time move to the Malta Shipbuilding arena. A week earlier this venue will also host the junior contest. A mixture of jury and public vote will select Malta’s 28th entrant in the Eurovision Song Contest. This year, Maltese folk band Firelight managed to qualify to the final with their song Coming Home but finished 23rd in the grand final.
