SVT has announced today that 2,177 songs have been received for the upcoming Melodifestivalen, out of which 1,733 have been submitted directly to the contest, and the remaining 444 to the online contest. The number is relatively low, considering that just two years ago, in 2012, there were 3,485 songs submitted. However, the executive producer of the show, Christer Björkman expressed that he is pleased with the number, and that he is aiming ‘quality over quantity’.
The number of songs submitted this year is lower than usual. However, we are pleased that the songwriters have listened to us when we asked them to submit quality over quantity.
After the low viewing figures in 2014, SVT has decided to renew the contests’ format, which is yet to be announced. Kalle Johansson, the winner of Svensktoppen Nästa 2014, will be among the participants.
