The first #EurovisionAgain was held on 21 March 2020, when fans across Europe rewatched Malmö 2013 in sync as lockdown gripped the continent. Over 14 weeks, fans tweeted along with rebroadcasts of past Eurovision contests and raised almost £25,000 for various charities. The hashtag #EurovisionAgain trended in several countries. At its peak, the shows were watched by 127,000 viewers on YouTube.
After a hiatus to accommodate the 2021 national final and Eurovision season, the synchronised re-watch parties will return on the third Saturday of each month in 2021, starting this week.
The dates for the broadcasts are as follows:
- Saturday 19 June
- Saturday 17 July
- Saturday 21 August
- Saturday 18 September
- Saturday 16 October
- Saturday 20 November
After these shows, #EurovisionAgain will then once again take a pause for Junior Eurovision and the 2022 National Final Season. However, we may once again get some one-off shows here and there too.
#EurovisionAgain so far
As before, the year won’t be revealed until 15 minutes prior to it premiering on the official Eurovision YouTube channel. While the rights to recent editions belong to the EBU, older editions of the contest are often incredibly difficult to find online due to broadcasting rights belonging to various broadcasters. This was explained on Eurovision.tv:
Of course, some Contests are easier to secure than others – as you can imagine, broadcast rights for television shows are extremely complicated things, especially when you mix in the copyrights of a bunch of songs and consider that some broadcasters (and even countries) no longer exist!
Behind the scenes, broadcasters are going to great lengths to assist in the finding and signing off of classic Contests.
