It has been nearly 13 years since Ira Losco achieved Malta’s best ever Eurovision result when ‘7th Wonder’ finished a very close 2nd in Tallinn, and now it seems she is finally ready to give the contest another try.
Since her appearance in 2002, Ira Losco has released several award-winning albums and last year, she co-presented the Malta Eurovision Song Contest in which Firelight triumphed and went on to represent their country. However, she has hinted that this year she would like to go one step further and return to the competition to compete.
She addressed her fans directly about the matter on her Facebook page, asking:
Dear Friends, I would like to hear your views with regards to Eurovision. In 2002 I was fortunate enough to get a 2nd placing for MALTA with just 12 points away from a win. What are your thoughts if I had to return to Eurovision with a song i wrote? We’re in this musical journey together + I value your feedback. MUCH LOVE , Ira XXX
Response to her statement so far has naturally been very positive, but if she did choose to throw her hat into the ring once again, competition could be stiff; Eurovision winner Alexander Rybak has announced that he has submitted an entry as a songwriter for Maltese singer Franklin.
All will be revealed in due course, as Malta will be one of the first countries to select their entry, with the Malta Eurovision Song Contest final taking place just a week after Junior Eurovision, on Saturday 22nd November.
