48 songs make it through the first phase

The Maltese national broadcaster, PBS announced the 48 songs that made it through the first phase of the Maltese selection for the next Eurovision Song Contest. A day after Ira Losco asked her fans if they approve her return in the Eurovision scene, the names of the 48 selected came out. Losco is not amongst those who qualified and it is still unclear if she did submit or not a song.
The list of those shortlisted includes Gianluca Bezzina (2013), who as exclusively revealed earlier this week by escXtra is participating with his siblings as a group. Glen Vella (2011), Ludwig Galea (2004), Olivia Lewis (2007) and Miriam Christine (1996) are other past Eurovision entrants who are also in the run to represent Malta again.
The runner-up and the winner of the public vote in the last Maltese national final i.e. Daniel Testa and Jessica Muscat respectively are also amongst those who qualified. Another notable group who managed to overcome the first hurdle of the Maltese selection is a group of nuns. PBS revealed that in total there were 134 entries submitted for the Maltese selection. A semi-final show is planned on 21st November while a day later the national final will take place in which Malta’s 28th hopeful will be chosen.
