20 semi-finalists for the Maltese selection will be revealed in tonight’s popular show, Xarabank on TVM at 20:45 CET. As in previous years those selected are expected to sing a part of their song. This means that for the very first time, the viewers will be able to watch a snippet of each possible Malta’s entry to Vienna. Last week the national broadcaster, PBS announced the 48 entries who got shortlisted after that 134 songs were originally submitted in August. The list of those shortlisted includes Gianluca Bezzina (2013), who as exclusively revealed by escXtra is participating with his siblings as a group.Glen Vella (2011), Ludwig Galea (2004), Olivia Lewis (2007) and Miriam Christine (1996) are other past Eurovision entrants who are also in the run to represent Malta again.
The runner-up and the winner of the public vote in the last Maltese national final i.e. Daniel Testa and Jessica Muscat respectively are amongst those who can qualify tonight. Another notable group who managed to overcome the first hurdle of the Maltese selection is a group of nuns.
The 20 semi-finalists revealed tonight will compete in a semi-final televised show to take place on 21st November at the Malta Shipbuilding arena. 14 acts will qualify to the final, scheduled a day after i.e. 22nd November. A mixture of a jury and public vote will select Malta’s 28th entrant in the Eurovision Song Contest. This year, Maltese folk band Firelight managed to qualify to the final with their song Coming Home but finished 23rd in the grand final.
