Liverpool 2023🇳🇱 Netherlands

Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper to represent The Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest

The word is out! Mia and Dion will be waving the Dutch flag at the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool next year.

On the first day of November, during a live broadcast the Dutch radio show ‘Aan De Slag!’, the Dutch representatives for Eurovision 2023 were announced. To many, this may have come as a surprise, since there were no announcements made beforehand. Both artists seemed very excited and full of confidence.

“Eurovision is THE stage where people can see what you have to offer, as an artist. After working very hard for all those years translating our feelings into music, this is an amazing opportunity to tell our story on such a big scale. It feels amazing and a bit surreal still that the selection committee from AVROTROS has chosen our song, but we are ready to bring something positive to Europe!”

The influence of Duncan Laurence

The duo met each other just two years ago, with none other than Eurovision 2019 winner Duncan Laurence pairing them up! After quickly realizing that their voices matched perfectly, there was an instant musical connection made. Although Mia & Dion’s Eurovision entry has been released yet, we know it has been written by Mia, Dion, Duncan Laurence and his partner and songwriter Jordan Garfield.

Who are Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper?

Mia Nicolai is a 26 year old singer, from Amsterdam but currently residing in Los Angeles. After releasing her debut single ‘Set Me Free’ in 2020, she caught the attention of an international audience. Her second single, ‘Mutual Needs’, debuted on the famous American radio show ‘Zane Lowe Radio’. Mia feels that art and creativity influence her musical style, but also looks up to artists like David Bowie.

Dion Cooper is a 28 year old singer from the Netherlands. He comes from a very musical upbringing, and he lives according to the motto ‘bring the joy!’. He released his first EP ‘Too Young Too Dumb’ in 2021, and Dion has written his song ‘Blue Jeans’ with Duncan Laurence. Fun fact: Dion Cooper was the opening act for Duncan’s tour last year!
