Greece to participate in Vienna

Greece’s participation in next year’s Eurovision Song Contest has been in jeopardy for the past few months, with speculation that the country’s new broadcaster NERIT would not be ineligible to take part whilst their application to become an EBU member was being reviewed.

Today however, the EBU had the good news of confirming that the new broadcaster which officially launched in May this year, has been officially accepted as an EBU member and therefore can take part in next year’s contest.
Although NERIT launched in May, a mere few weeks before the 2014 contest, the EBU granted Greece with a one year exception to participate whilst the new broadcaster had time to settle down and in doing so, give them time to put forward an application.

Jon Ola Sand, Executive Supervisor of the contest spoke of the news – “We’re glad to have Greece joining the 60th Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna. Their dedication to the biggest music event in the world has been impressive throughout the years.”
