Lithuanian broadcaster LRT have added a cherry on top of the cake for the song writer lucky enough to win the Lithuanian ticket to Vienna – a €4 500 euro cash prize.
The incentive comes with a call to international songwriters to submit their entries to take part in Lithuania’s national final. As with last year the song and the singer will be selected separately from each other.
The prize has been generously supplied by LATGA, the Lithuanian copyright collection administration. Sasha Song, who in 2009 represented Lithuania with his song ‘Love’ (as Sasha Son) has stoked the fires stating that his entry has so far earned him over €30 000 in author’s rights.
Song states that being a song writer is “bloody hard work” citing a knowledge of history as well as current trends as necessary to write the perfect song and the prize money from LATGA will help “motivate people to be creative”.
Last year Vilija Matačiūnaitė was selected independently from the song, although in the end it was her own song ‘Attention’ that was selected. Unfortunately however she then just missed out on the final finishing in 11th place.
