On the first day of release, Trijntje Oosterhuis immediately topped the national iTunes Chart in The Netherlands. Her song Walk Along became the most downloaded track of the day.
After its release yesterday, the song immediately got mixed reactions in both its home country and the international fan community. The song was called a ‘winner’ by Dutch commentator Cornald Maas, but was also deemed a sure non-qualifier by some fans online. Also, Ilse DeLange (The Common Linnets) reacted to the song on Twitter and in the studio during the live performance tonight on The Voice of Holland, calling the song super fresh and catchy. For now, it shows that the Eurovision Song Contest is very much alive in The Netherlands. That probably is no big surprise after looking at the results in the past two years and the increasing viewing figures in 2013 and 2014, even topping the chart of most watched programmes of 2013, beating the inauguration of the Dutch king.
Today, Trijntje said Anouk will not join her on stage in Vienna, despite Anouk’s participation in the backing vocals on the studio version. As previously mentioned, she also performed the song live for the first time today on The Voice of Holland, where she is a coach. She was joined on stage by two backing vocals.
