With just under a week left for the Swiss to pick their entry for Vienna in Die Große Entscheidungsshow, escXtra.com spoke to one of the acts taking part: Deborah Bough. Read what she had to say below!
escXtra.com: Hey Deborah! First of all, thanks for doing this interview! How are you, a few weeks before the Swiss national final?
Deborah Bough: Hello Nick, I’m fine but quite busy and stressed with all the preparations 😉
X: Could you introduce yourself to our readers?
D: Sure, I was born and raised in Switzerland, Ticino, my mom is from here and my dad from the Caribbean, I started singing from the age of six, I recorded my first album in 2010 and toured all over Switzerland winning prizes and recognitions. Two years ago I classified amongst first 12 candidates at The Voice Of Switzerland while I was studying in University, I later performed in events such as for Hairdays 13 at Hallenstadion Zurich (about 7’000 spectators). This year I’m graduating and so I decided to take on a new challenge which is Eurovision song contest 2015!
X: Who are your musical idols?
D: When I was little I loved Withney Houston and Mariah Carey, but I have many more that I admire, I grew up listening to Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, The Beatles, Harry Belafonte.. But I also like listening to Alicia Keys, Adele, Céline Dion, Coldplay, Kings of Leon, Beyonce and more, I don’t like to be closed up in one genre.
X: You’re quite the multicultural person: Swiss mother, Caribbean father, studying in France, living in New York and Switzerland. How has that influenced you as a person?
D: I think it has enriched me as a person and as an artist, it has influenced my music and the way I write my songs.
X: I read you studied Literature and Language in France. What’s the best book ever written?
D: At the time I really enjoyed Le Neveu de Rameau by Diderot and Le Tartuffe by Molière.
X: Could you tell us something about the song, Take Me Back To 23?
D: I wrote it last summer during my exam sessions while a met a nice young man and together with my university experience they brought me back to the best years…
X: Why did you decide to apply for Eurovision?
D: Because my mother and friends were quite pushy but I’m glad I did, so far it has been a really nice experience.
X: Are you a Eurovision fan?
D: I must admit, I don’t watch it every year but when I do I enjoy it.
X: Do you have an all time favourite Eurovision song?
D: Euphoria by Loreen.
X: Finally, do you have a message for the readers of escXtra.com?
D: Sure, first of all I’d like to say a big HELLOOOOO to everyone!!! If you’d like to know more about me you can find me at deborahbough.com or visit me on facebook, twitter and instagram @deborahbough. I’ll be waiting for youuuuu!! Cheers! :p
