Erna Hrönn: “The perfect dress is in the making.” [Interview]

This Saturday, the first semifinal of Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2015 is taking place. That means it’s time to speak to the woman who’s heading for her fifth participation in Söngvakeppni. Will she finally shine and win the ticket to the Eurovision Song Contest? Will Myrkrið Hljótt be her golden ticket? Read what Erna Hrönn had to say below!
escXtra.com: Hey Erna! Thanks for doing this interview. How are you preparing for Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2015?
Erna Hrönn: My pleasure Nick! I’m preparing in so many ways; practising with my backing vocals, doing a script for the camera work, brainstorming with my choreographer and of course the perfect dress is in the making.

X: Who are your musical idols?
E: When I was growing up my idols were the amazing singers Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion but when I grew older I connected more with singers like Tina Turner, Janis Joplin and nowadays Adele.
X: You tried to represent Iceland in 2011 with Ástin Mín Eina and in 2013 with Augnablik. How do you look back on those experiences?
E: Actually it’s my fifth time as a front singer and each time I participated it had its charm. It´s always so much fun to be a part of the competition because it´s such a small country and we’re all friends. 🙂

X: Why did you decide to apply for Söngvakeppnin 2015?
E: In 2012 I wrote the lyrics for the author, Arnar Ástráðsson and sang the demo but it didn´t qualify that year. When it did this year there wasn´t a doubt in my mind to participate because I love the melody and really enjoy singing it.
X: What can you tell us about your song Myrkrið Hljótt?
E: It’s a ballad with a beat.. a sad love story about a heartbreak and how the darkness helps the heart to heal when it seems almost impossible.
X: If you’d win Söngvakeppnin, would you sing in English or Icelandic in Eurovision?
E: If I’ll get so lucky to represent my country, the song will very likely be in English.

X: What’s your favourite place in Iceland?
E: I grew up in the countryside near Akureyri in the north of Iceland, Eyjafjarðarsveit, and I think it´s the most beautiful place on earth.
X: Do you watch Eurovision every year?
E: Yes, I’m a huge Eurovision fan and usually I watch the semi finals at home in peace and quiet but the finals with family and friends 🙂
X: Do you have an all time favourite Eurovision song?
E: It’s impossible to choose just one and come to think of it I probably never give the same answer! But under pressure I would say Euphoria by Loreen from Sweden.
X: Finally, do you have a message for the readers of escXtra.com?
E: It’s almost time…so have fun and enjoy the season! 🙂
escXtra.com would like to thank Erna Hrönn for her time to answer our questions! We’d also like to wish her and her song, Myrkrið Hljótt, the best of luck in Saturday’s semifinal of Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2015. Listen to her song below!
