RTP have today revealed more information regarding their national final “Festival da Canção” which is set to take place in March.
12 composers have been invited to submit 12 songs to the selection which will be divided into two semi finals. The two songs with the highest number of votes by televoters will proceed into the grand final. A third song from each semi final will be selected solely by a jury to also compete in the final.
In the final, the six competing finalists will be narrowed down to three using the same formula as in the semi finals, with the top two songs by televoters proceeding to the Super Final. The third will be selected by a jury. In the Super Final, the winner will be chosen by 100% televoting.
It is also reported that for the first time in years, ‘Festival da Canção’ will include a live band as opposed to previous years where the songs were accompanied by a backing track.
Last year, Suzy won the ticket to Copenhagen to represent Portugal at the contest. Although she failed to qualify for the final with Quero ser tua”, the song quickly became a favourite with fans. Watch the live performance below!
