Anne Gadegaard: “I’m so grateful that I could represent my country at Junior Eurovision” [Interview]

With Dansk Melodi Grand Prix just over 24 hours away we took the chance to speak to a few of the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix participants. Today we’re speaking to the girl who represented Denmark at the very first Junior Eurovision song contest, Anne Gadegaard.
escXtra: Hello Anne! Thanks for taking some time to speak to us today! Firstly we’d like to congratulate you all on making it into Dansk Melodi Grand Prix!
Anne Gadegaard: Hello.
X: For those of us who aren’t so familiar with you, can you please introduce yourself and tell us an interesting fact about yourself?
A: I’m Anne Gadegaard. I’m 23 years old, but I still text my dad every night before going to bed! 🙂
X: How did you come together with the team behind your song ‘Suitcase’?
A: One of the writers is my boyfriend. The song wasn’t for me at first, but when I got the chance to perform with it I was really happy, because I loved the song so much!
X: Was it always intended for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix?
A: No, not at all, the song was actually for a whole other project.. I think that’s why it’s so unique.
X: In your own words what is ‘Suitcase’ about?
A: The song is about chasing your dreams. Dreams can be good, but you need to get out the door and chase that dream!
X: Most Eurovision fans would last be familiar with you as the 12 year old girl who represented Denmark at the first Junior Eurovision Song Contest. How was that experience for you, and did it fuel your desire to enter Dansk Melodi Grand Prix?
A: It was amazing!!! I remember it like the biggest experience ever. I’m so grateful that I could represent my country at Junior Eurovision.
X: Did you manage to stay in contact with any of the other performers from 2003?
A: Not from the Eurovision unfortunately, but my dancers from that time are still my good friends.
X: For you what does it mean to perform your entry in English and would you ever consider singing a Danish version of the song?
A: I think this song is perfect as it is. I would never ever change it 🙂
X: Can you give us a hint as to what we can expect from your stage performance?
A: For now, its a secret, but its going to be amazing!!
X: What are your feelings on the fact that if you win you will be once again representing Denmark at Eurovision?
A: It would be such an honour! I can’t even think about that right now, becausee i’m so focused about the DMGP. But of course it would be a big experience
X: Are you a Eurovision fan, and if so do you have any favourite Eurovision songs? Perhaps a favourite Danish entry?
A: I’m a big fan of Eurovsion! “Fly on the Wings of Love” will always be my all time favourite. That song is just so good.
X: Now some questions to get to know you a little better, how did you spend your most recent birthday?
A: Eating “stegt flæsk med persillesovs” the Danish national dish 😀
X: Can you tell us a secret about yourself that very few people know?
A: I sleep best with the TV on.
X: What is your favourite drink?
A: Red Bull.
X: What is your favourite food to cook?
A: Stegt flæsk med persillesovs!
X: If you could have any animal in the world as a pet, what would you choose?
A: A dog.. I love dogs, and I grew up with dogs.. they’re like humans to me.
X: What is your favourite colour?
A: Black (is that a colour?) otherwise pink.
X: What is the most embarrassing thing that has ever happened to you?
A: Ohhh.. so many that I can’t share… hah
X: Finally, do you have a message for our readers?
A: I hope you like the songs, and that you enjoy this years Eurovision.. hope to see you there!
Anne takes part in the final of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix tomorrow with the song “Suitcase” which you can hear below. On behalf of everyone at escXtra we would like to thank Anne for her time and wish her all the best in the contest and with whatever comes next.
