ABBA releases new song “Just A Notion”

ABBA, one of the most successful pop groups of all time, have recently made their comeback after 40 years with their songs “Don’t Shut Me Down”, and “I Still Have Faith In You”. Now, they are back with even more music for fans to enjoy! This new song will surely be featured in their revolutionary new concert that will see Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid performing digitally with a live 10-piece band, in a purpose-built arena in London from 27th May 2022.

The return of ABBA

The Swedish pop group gained worldwide fame following their Melodifestivalen and Eurovision Song Contest win in 1974 with the song “Waterloo”, and have been a household name since. 40 years after the release of their final album “The Visitors”, the group announced “Voyage”: a comeback album accompanied with a digital tour!

Their song “Just A Notion” is the third release following the announcement of “Voyage”, which is released on 5th November. The album will also feature both singles “I Still Have Faith in You” and “Don’t Shut Me Down” as well as seven new songs. The album was recorded at Benny’s studio Riksmixingsverket in Stockholm and will be released later this year via Universal Musical Group.

As for their “Voyage” tour, this will take place entirely in the digital space. For the band, that is. The digital versions of ABBA have been created following weeks and months of motion-capture and performance techniques with the four band members and an 850-strong team from Industrial Light & Magic, the company founded by George Lucas, in what is the company’s first foray into music. Fans can attend the concert in real time in London, with the band’s digital versions performing both old and new ABBA songs!

Succeeding in the charts after 40 years

Following its release and entering the charts at number 9, “Don’t Shut Me Down” was ABBA’s first UK Top 10 single since “One of Us” in 1981 – the last of ABBA’s 18 consecutive top 10 singles. “I Still Have Faith in You” had entered at number 14 – two positions higher than the re-released of “Dancing Queen” in 1992.

Since its release, “Don’t Shut Me Down” was streamed 25 million times, while “I Still Have Faith In You” was streamed 15 million times. Spotify has yet to release the streaming numbers on the newly released “Just A Notion”. In a week full of ABBA, the group’s greatest hits album “Gold” also returned to the UK Top 5 for the first time since 2008.

ABBA also broke Universal Music UK’s record with “Voyage” become the most pre-ordered album, with over 80,000 pre-orders recorded just three days after the album’s announcement.

Don’t forget to stream the song, of course!
