The return of the Eurovision Song Contest this year will usher in the great tradition of former participants joining the festivities from their own nations. This week it has been confirmed that Lake Malawi’s Albert Černý will be commentating the 2021 contest for Czech viewers.
Eurovision 2019 alum Albert Černý will be co-commentating on Eurovision 2021 alongside Jan Maxián from the CT studios in Prague. According to Eurocontest.cz, this new duo will be replacing previous commentator Libor Bouček. Maxián had previously commentated last year’s Europe Shine A Light broadcast.
Albert is no stranger to the contest, having represented the Czech Republic at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv as part of Lake Malawi. The singer also participated in Poland’s Szansa na Sukces – Eurowizja 2020 the following year.
Albert’s Eurovision journey
In 2019, the Czech Republic selected Lake Malawi to represent them in Tel Aviv with their song “Friend of a Friend“. During their participation at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest, Lake Malawi managed to bring Czech Republic to the Grand Final for the second consecutive year. Overall, they managed to finish 11th with 157 Points (the nation’s second-best result to date).
In 2020, he participated in Poland’s Szansa na Sukces – Eurowizja 2020. After successfully qualifying to the top 3 with his cover of The Beatles’ “Please Please Me”, he performed “Lucy” in the Grand Final, eventually placing second behind Alicia Szemplińska’s “Empires”.
