“The Next Star” to select for Israel in 2024

KAN will return to using the show “The Next Star” as the national selection for their entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, the Israeli broadcaster announced on Facebook today.

The Keshet 12 singing competition “The Next Star”, formerly known as “Rising Star” was used from 2015-2020 to choose the singer representing Israel and produced great results. The show helped the country out of its 4 year non-qualificaiton trend after Nadav Guedj won in 2015 and placed 9th in the grand final. Hovi Star continued that new trend placing 14th in the final.

Netta won “Rising Star” in 2018 and went on to win Eurovision after outscoring Eleni Foureira from Cyprus and Cesar Sampson from Austria in “… a Eurovision that is considered the best of that decade and one of the best of all time,” KAN said. Kobi Marimi won the show and represent the then host country in 2019 but ended 23rd, the same as Imri in 2017.

Eden Alene was chosen for 2021 after winning the show in 2020 and the cancelation of that years contest and ended 17th in the final. “The X Factor Israel” was used in 2022 and the country failed to qualify to the final. After the internal selection of Noa Kirel, Israel placed third in 2023 and now KAN has high hopes that “Rising Star” will produce a singer who can top that result.

It has not yet been announced who will be competing in “The Next Star” or the dates it will be held.
