Lara Trpčeska and Irina Davidovska will represent North Macedonia at JESC 2022

The Balkan nation will mark their 17th appearance in the Yerevan contest

MRT the national broadcaster of North Macedonia are the second to confirm their representative for JESC 2022. Later this year the duo of Lara Trpčeska and Irina Davidovska will take to the stage in Yerevan, Armenia for the Balkan nation.

Earlier this year, the broadcaster held an open call for children aged between 9-14 to audition at the MRT Studios in Skopje. During the auditions, invited acts performed two songs of their choosing. Meanwhile a professional committee assessed the auditions on a number of criteria, including – vocal, artistic and scenic quality. Following this, MRT chose not one, but two artists!

Both Lara Trpčeska and Irina Davidovska will represent North Macedonia in Yerevan, Armenia for JESC 2022. Already the final version of their entry has been submitted to MRT. Lara has a history of music competitions. Previously she placed runner-up in the Tartini international singing contest, and in 2018 won the Polyhymnia music contest in Skopje. Whilst Irina performs with the Piccolo children’s choir. The two became friends on the festival circuit in 2018.

Junior Eurovision 2022

The 2022 Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be held on December 11th in the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex in Yerevan, Armenia. This will be the second time that Yerevan will host the competition, after their previous hosting in 2011. So far a total of 15 countries have declared interesting in participating.

While Kazakhstan has expressed a desire to compete in JESC again this year, their participation is awaiting approval by the European Broadcasting Union, as they are only an associate member of the EBU.

North Macedonia in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest

Back in 2003, North Macedonia made their Junior Eurovision debut with Marija and Viktorija and the entry, ‘Ti ne me poznavaš‘. In the inaugural contest they placed 12th – a position they know too well, with eight 12th places overall. The best results for the Balkan nation came in 2007 and 2008 with top 5 finishes for ‘Ding Ding Dong‘ and ‘Prati mi SMS‘.

Last year a selection of singers from Dajte muzika, an MRT co-production, were selected to represent North Macedonia in Paris. During the contest they placed 9th with 114 points for the climate focused entry, ‘Green Forces’.
