Il Volo wins Sanremo Festival and will go to Vienna

Il Volo won the 65th edition of the Sanremo Festival. Il Volo clinched victory in the most prestigious festival in Italy with the song Grande amore. The main host i.e. Carlo Conti announced that Il Volo will represent Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Sixteen acts competed in the gala night final held in the glamorous Ariston Theatre. Three acts advanced to the super final. In the end it was a battle between Il Volo, Nek and Malika Ayane.
Il Volo is an Italian operatic pop trio discovered in 2009 during a popular television show broadcasted on RAI called Ti Lascio Una Canzone. The trio is made up by tenors, Piero Barone and Ignazio Boschetto and baritone Gianluca Ginoble.
Throughout this week, the Sanremo Festival was hosted by Carlo Conti, assisted by last year’s Italian Eurovision hopeful, Emma Marrone, Arisa (winner of Sanremo 2014) and Spanish actress/model Rocio Munoz Morales.
Sanremo Festival is considered to be the father of the Eurovision Song Contest as the founders of Europe’s favourite show conceived the idea of Sanremo, which started five years earlier.
