Lee Lin Chin, one of Australia’s most iconic journalists has officially stepped down of her role at SBS after more than 30 years. She is known to the Eurovision world for announcing Australia’s Eurovision points from 2015 to 2017.

Lee Lin Chin last appeared at SBS as World News presenter on Sunday after being a familiar face there since 1992. The journalist known to the Australian public for her quirky sense of humor and interesting fashion choices bid farewell to her audience after a lengthy career at the broadcaster. From Indonesia to Singapore to Australia
Lee Lin Chin was born in Jakarta, Indonesia to Chinese parents and later grew up in Singapore, where her career in the media began in 1968. She then moved to Australia in 1980 and began working at SBS as a translator for Chinese movies. Afterwards, in 1992, she joined SBS World News as a presenter. During her tenure, she announced some of the most significant and breaking news to Australian viewers, including the 9/11 attacks and the death of Nelson Mandela to name a few. For those of us in the Eurovision world she is iconic for enthusiastically announcing Australia’s scores at the contest for three consecutive years between 2015 and 2017.
Resigned, not retired
Lee Lin Chin wanted to make it clear that although she no longer works at SBS she simply resigned as shown in this tweet:
I have not retired, simply resigned. Retirement is death.

When asked about the reasons behind her decision to resign from her position she stated:
There’s not one big reason, there’s many small to medium-sized reasons, which for the time being I wish to keep to myself but may talk about one day
She also said that, considering the length of her tenure, the leaving wasn’t an easy choice saying:
Having spent the bulk of my professional life at SBS, this isn’t by any means an easy decision. I shall be leaving a happy and satisfying role as a newsreader. My friends and colleagues for whom I have fervent respect will be deeply missed.
