According to Belarusian news website Sputnik.by, it has been confirmed that BTRC (Belarusian Television and Radio Company) has submitted the paperwork required to enter the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest and have therefore confirmed that Belarus will be making their 14th appearance at the contest next year.
The website also suggests that it is likely that BTRC will be holding a national final in order to select their representative as they have done every year since their 2004 debut, except for the internal selections of 3+2 and Anastasia Vinnikova in 2010 and 2011 respectively.
Over the years, Belarus have struggled to set the Eurovision scoreboard alight with Dmitry Koldun securing the country’s sole top ten finish back in 2007 with Work Your Magic. In addition, Belarus have only made the grand final on three other occasions with 3+2 in 2010, Alyona Lanskaya in 2013 and Teo in 2014. Last year, IVAN’s impressive hi-tech stage show only just missed out on reaching the final, finishing in 12th place in the second semi-final.
