🇸🇮 Ana Soklič releases music video for ‘Voda’

As her 2021 preparations begin, see her version for the former 2020 entry

Earlier this year Slovenia’s Eurovision 2020 representative Ana Soklič was reselected to represent the Balkan nation again. Now ahead of deciding her song for 2021, she brings us an early Christmas present. Another look at her 2020 entry, with the release of the music video for ‘Voda’.

‘Voda’ music video released

Even though Eurovision 2020 was not able to take place this year due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Ana Soklič has remained faithful to what would have been her entry. Following the cancellation announcement she released a revamped version of her emotive power ballad in March. Which saw Ana team up with the Budapest Art Orchestra to give ‘Voda’ more depth. With an ocean of symphonic enhancements to the instrumentation working in harmony with Ana’s rich vocals.

Over the Spring in the absence of the usual pre-party season, many Eurovision artists of past and present took part in the Eurovision Home Concerts series. During the difficult time of lockdown isolation, these creative performances united us and showed the true artistry of our favourite Eurovision acts. None more so than Ana, who took the concept one step further. During her Home Concert she took ‘Voda’ back to the source. So we were reminded of the outdoors, as Ana gave a stirring performance of her former entry near her house at Lake Bohinj.

Now as we look forward to what 2021 and our return to Rotterdam brings, we must still remember what came before. Once more Ana shares with us the story of ‘Voda’. A song that takes on a life and meaning of its own like water itself. As the video shows the courage of overcoming life’s struggles, with Ana and her alter ego, dancer Kaja Lin taking that interpretation to the fullest. The video is dedicated to Ana’s late grandmother Marija Rozman who sadly passed this year. ‘Voda’ is written and produced by Ana Soklič, Bojan Simončič and Žiga Pirnat. Watch the new video and Ana’s reflection on the past year below:

Ana Soklič in the Eurovision Song Contest

This year, the Balkan nation of Slovenia selected Ana Soklič to fly the flag in Rotterdam. She was born in 1984 in the northwestern town of Bohinj. In her early years Ana started her music journey with a keen interest in Jazz and Opera. But it is not the first time Ana has tried to represent Slovenia. Previously in 2004 and 2007, she competed in the Slovenian selections alongside her group, Diona Dim. With 53.54% of the televote in the superfinal of EMA 2020, Ana finally achieved her Eurovision dream.

Despite the cancellation of the 2020 contest, RTVSLO backed their artist and internally selected Ana for the return to Rotterdam next May. Recently the broadcaster revealed that 191 entries were submitted. However it is not yet known how the entry will be decided. While we wait you can check out Ana’s Voda EP here!
