Saara Aalto progresses to the live shows of X Factor UK!

Over the past few weeks, many Eurovision fans have been following the progress of Saara Aalto – twice runner-up in Finnish Eurovision national selection process – whose audition of Sia’s Chandelier on the UK’s The X Factor wowed judge Nicole Scherzinger and also wowed the viewing audience, recently passing a remarkable four million views on YouTube. Since her audition, Saara eased through the bootcamp stage to progress to the Six Chair Challenge. Following a dramatic sequence in which Saara performed I See Fire and then also Je Suis Malade after the audience demanded Sharon to reconsider her decision after her first performance, the Finnish star didn’t progress.

Thankfully, Nicole Scherzinger was allowed to issue a wildcard to one of Sharon’s over 25s who didn’t get a seat at the Six Chair Challenge. Nicole chose Saara, meaning that she was able to have one last chance to convince Sharon and make it through to the live shows of the competition. She delivered a vocal masterclass for her cover of ABBA’s The Winner Takes It All and Sharon chose Saara to be one of her three finalists that will take part in the live shows starting next Saturday night! Later, on spin-off show The Xtra Factor, Saara revealed she would perform a cover of Idina Menzel’s Let It Go on the first live show, a song she is extremely familiar with after dubbing one of the lead characters in the Finnish version of blockbuster movie Frozen.

How far do you think Saara can make it in The X Factor UK? Perhaps this could be a stepping stone in seeing Saara achieve her dream of competing at the Eurovision Song Contest? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

My first memory of watching the Eurovision Song Contest was back in 2001 and, over the years, my passion and enthusiasm for the contest has very much turned into an obsession. I adore music and I love geography, so this contest is a natural fit for me. If la la loving Eurovision was a crime, I'd certainly be a criminal!
