Festivali i Këngës, the long running national selection show that has selected the Albanian entrant for Eurovision in every single one of their appearances has today announced a new change to their voting format.
The news came via the Eurovision Albania Facebook page, which mentioned that now a public televote will be included. This means that Albanians will be able to have a role in selecting who represents them in Ukraine next May.
Over the course of the two semi final nights, in which 24 artists will be performing, only 14 will be able to qualify to the final night. Out of the 14 qualifiers, 8 will be chosen by a professional jury made of musicians, artists and composers. A further 3 qualifiers will be chosen by the press and the final 3 qualifiers will be selected by a jury that represents the Albanian public themselves.
From these qualifiers, the winner on the final night of the festival will be selected from a 60% jury and 40% public vote split.
With the news of the voting changes, do you think this will bring greater success to Albania at Eurovision or do you think that Festivali i Këngës shouldn’t be used any more to select the Albanian representative for Eurovision? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
