Kalush Orchestra to auction off the Eurovision trophy

UKRInform.net report that Kalush Orchestra, who won the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, have announced their intention to auction off the Eurovision trophy. Oleh Psiuk, the frontman of the group, made this announcement during a zoom press briefing. The money raised will be donated to a charity for the support of Ukraine and the armed forces.

Eurovision trophy to be auctioned off

We plan to put our statuette up for auction and donate all the money to a charity fund that helps the Armed Forces and Ukraine. We are still to select one. See, many people are already donating from abroad, and perhaps many more would like to donate. And this, in our opinion, will be the thing that motivates them. We think it will be beneficial for Ukraine.

Kalush Orchestra has yet to decide on an auction platform and a date, but will announce this shortly. Oleh Psiuk also said that though they would like to see “a hefty sum”. He didn’t want to be specific about numbers.

Grateful for the massive support

In addition to announcing the plans for an auction, Kalush Orchestra also used the opportunity to convey thanks for the massive support they received during the contest.

I’d like to express my gratitude to all the people who supported us – Ukrainians, the diaspora, and citizens of other countries. This is a very important step and victory for Ukraine now. I’m happy that I was able to convey such good news as there’s not so many of them, and I can already see how it encouraged all our people, so I’m glad to realize that all these efforts weren’t in vain.
